In the fiction category, I’m currently reading Magic or Madness by Justine Larbalestier. My gaming reading includes Open Grave right now.

Shaun’s Background — High School to Yesterday in a Nutshell

September 19th, 2008

I graduated from Truman High School, then I attended four different colleges to work on an English/Speech/Theater BS Ed. It didn’t go well. I guess I wasn’t ready.

I dropped out of college, then worked for KU Medical Center’s Outpatient Pharmacy as a technician. I met Miranda while there. Miranda got a job offer in Pennsylvania, so we got married and moved out there with our three cats and all our things.

Four months later, the apartment burned to the ground. We got out with ourselves, cats, and a car. Four months later, my wife got a job offer with a company in Wisconsin, so we moved there. I found a job there as a  Help Desk Tech. We purchased our first “house” (read: extreme fixer-upper).

Nearly two years later, Miranda’s workplace was purchased by another company, and we headed for the Seattle area. About two years after that, the company was purchased by Hasbro (yes, Mr. Potato Head). Shortly thereafter my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. We both quit our jobs and headed back to Independence, MO.

In November 2001, my father died from cancer. About that time I got back to school and received my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems (Oct. 2004). That’s the same time that I joined the Freemasons.

I currently work for a software company in Shawnee. I’ve been married 14 years as of 10/9/08. We have four cats. My mother lives in Blue Springs. Her brother was back from China. Jason is in Blue Springs as well. My sister married her high school sweetheart John Ham and they have three children.

I’m still heavily involved in games (tabletop, computer, and console) and I keep active in the community with my work with the Masons and Job’s Daughters. I work out to keep in shape as much as I can.

There is a lot of detail left out since that’s nearly 20 years of catching up.
